T his talk will highlight three topics related to the Chain: 1. how a new marine survey of the submarine section of the Hawaiian Ridge is providing exciting new maps of the v olcanoes that are now underwater and capped by carbonates. 2. How giant landslides are common on Hawaiian volcanoes. Two slides near Honolulu will be discussed using bathym etry data collected by JAMSTEC. 3. The history of two ongoing eruptions of Kilauea vol cano and the new evidence that Kilauea has been explosive for much of the last 2500 ye ars.
