MENUMENU

Research

Earth and planetary sciences aim to clarify the morphology and structure of the materials of the earth and its surroundings, mechanisms of various phenomena, and the geohistory for 4.6 billion years. These fundamental research areas have important roles in sustaining human societies through, for example, addressing environmental problems and disaster prevention. The methods of our studies have great diversity: field surveys, observation, data and sample analyses, analog and numerical experiments and theories may all be used in various combinations. International and interdisciplinary collaboration and the recent development of technologies such as artificial satellites, high-performance computers, and apparatuses for nanoscopic materials, are bringing about great progress and innovative research themes in earth and planetary sciences.
