Life at Kyoto University
Studying at Kyoto University gives me the opportunity to get to know different cultures through science, food and people. Every day, I ride my bike to Uji Campus. I enjoy the view of Uji river and surrounding mountains. Also, I have had the chance to attend different seminars, meetings and workshops. During those events, I have learned different points of view concerning my research topic.
-What were the biggest challenges you met?
The difficulties of moving to another country, learning new society customs, also learning English and Japanese. When I arrived in Japan, daily activities were a challenge. Also, it was hard to be away from my family and friends.
-What did you work on to overcome the challenges?
My lab has both Japanese and foreign students, I have always felt support from them and from my supervisor. I enjoy exercising, for that reason I go to boulder gym. Also, I joined an ultimate team, a sport that I have been practicing for more than ten years. For that reason, I can meet people out of university. I have had amazing experiences with them.
Research at Kyoto University
I am working at Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI). My workplace is the Research Center for Earthquake Hazards. My supervisor is professor Yoshihiro Ito, I am very thankful for his support. My research focuses on the source of megathrust earthquakes. Now, I am working on the earthquake radiated energy and try to understand the relationship between the release of energy and physical features of the megathrust.
-What do you hope to do after graduating from Kyoto University?
I hope explore the world with my research. I believe an international background will always be the best way for my research. I would like apply my knowledge to help Mexican people understand earthquakes.
